What could be better than a breakfast burrito from Cafe Shane? A breakfast burrito from Cafe Shane Deux. There’s a new location at 919 Fulton Street in Brooklyn. I haven’t tried it yet. Maybe I’ll have a burrito crawl this weekend.

I was just talking to a potential client about a project that could be pretty exiting. She asked if we could meet over breakfast burritos at Cafe Shane. I think she might try and pay me in home fries.

She also asked why we haven’t posted to this site recently. Here’s a hint: breakfast burritos are known in some cultures as 4:30pm-itos. The desire for their deliciousness seems to be linked with circadian rhythms. I want one now, but unfortunately, they’re only served until 4 o’clock. Maybe subconsciously I can hear the sizzle in the kitchen settle to a quiet, a silent reminder of what I’ve missed. Maybe I need to discuss a system of pre-orders with the staff at Cafe Shane.

* I was interrupted while writing this post. An army of confusion just passed my office.

A woman on a loud speaker has been slowly moving down the street toward my end. She insists: “games and free cotton candy, we’ll pick you up and drive you home.” She’s not yelling, but it’s very loud. She offers this over and over again.

A yellow truck comes into view. The side says “the country’s largest sunday school” and something-something Ministries. There she is on the back of the truck, still insisting she’ll pick me up. She’s standing there waving with Spider man, some repitile, and a bunny. “Free cotton candy and we’ll bring you back home.” Somehow, I don’t trust that last promise.

There’s an army of people on the sidewalks. A dozen or two dozen have been streaming by, handing out flyers. They want more children like I want breakfast burritos. By the time you read this, they probably will have them all.

Though this roving carnival that offers the study of god in exchange for cotton candy interrupted my writing, my desire for shane’s breakfast burrito remains. It’s a testament to their enduring power, the universal truth they embody.

We ordered the Cafe Shane breakfast burrito from Cafe Shane today. I went to pick them up and it was packed. There was a line and a 20 minute wait. There were two french tourists eating at the counter and they had a tourist guidebook, but they weren’t eating the burrito. They were eating something else. They can just go back to France if you ask me.

I went to Pike Place Market. There are many foods to eat and many fish aloft. Still, I craved the delicate tortilla of home. The meal I ate was good, but from across a continent I was not satisfied, and I wished for the Cafe Shane Breakfast Burrito.

no, it isn’t. that means: yes! gotta run…

But I’m not really hungry. I don’t know. Our friend Christa commented on Shanesbreakfastburrito.wordpress.com that she is excited about visiting the neighborhood to eat one. That feels really good.

Ben and I were just discussing whether we’ll eat some breakfast burritos tomorrow. We’ll be mopping and painting our new apartment, sure to work up a good appetite.  We’ll be two blocks to the west on the same street, and I estimate that’ll bring us about 200 yards closer to Shane’s Cafe and their delicious breakfast burritos. One small step for man, one giant leap closer to more breakfast  burritos.

Shane’s serves the breakfast burrito until 4, so I have a couple of hours to decide. It would be a really nice thing to do for myself today; we’ll see.

Just kidding. It’s a breakfast burrito.

In an effort to find out everything I could about Shane’s Breakfast Burritos, I went to google.com and entered “Shane’s Breakfast Burritos.” The first item returned was a lengthy review of the Cafe Shane Breakfast Burrito from brooklynian.com. We’re not alone! The reviewer was largely enamored with the Shane’s Breakfast Burrito:

The neatly wrapped, uncut, very portable Shane burrito was filled with fluffy scrambled eggs, sausage, scallions and cheese. I should note that I ordered mine without the onions that normally accompany it. I liked being able to eat it with my hands and got the feeling that, if faced with the necessity, I could enjoy it on the subway or while walking through the nearby Botanical Gardens- what bliss!

The reviewer was concerned, however, that the burrito lacks Mexicality, and that it may not, in fact, be a burrito:

At Cafe Shane, however, there is nothing particularly Mexcellent about the burrito. While it is definitely delicious, I would even venture to say that this is no breakfast burrito, but merely a breakfast wrap.

I’m not so sure. Since Matthew and I have started this weblog titled Shanesbreakfastburritos.wordpress.com, it would certainly be problematic if Shane’s Breakfast Burritos weren’t breakfast burritos at all, now wouldn’t it?
